What is cookieless tracking?
Cookieless tracking is measurement that works without setting identifiers on the visitor's device. It includes techniques like aggregated reporting, server-side event counting, and Google's consent-mode modeling, and it exists because consent rules and browser restrictions have made cookie-based measurement unreliable.
The main approaches
Aggregated analytics counts events without individual identifiers. Server-side tagging moves data collection to your own infrastructure. Conversion modeling uses anonymized pings from denied visitors to statistically estimate what cookie-based tracking would have seen.
What it cannot do
Cookieless methods measure totals and trends, not individuals. Remarketing audiences and cross-session user journeys still depend on consent-based identifiers, which is why consent rates directly affect how much marketing data a site keeps.
